A friend asked me about his truck it is a peterbilt he has a 6nz flashed to a c16 with 6999 trim and it looks to be a larger turbo not sure on the specs and no waste gate. He hauls heavy 100,000 and says he has to run the engine fan because it warms up easy. Claims the pyro isn't getting over 1000* post turbo on a long pull. Has a larger radiator installed new cat elc and thermos stats. I was guessing there is a cam that should have been installed in his progress but it's the stock 550 c15 cam also I know the 6999 can run them hot but that should show on the pyro more than coolant right?. Now I'm wondering what your suggestions would be? Thanks guys
6nz flashed to c16 need help

I'm not certain but it's possible a factory C-16 has a different water pump or thermostat housing or something else in the system that allows it to flow a greater volume of coolant through the system. It could also be something as simple as a variation in the sizes of the pulleys that Cat specs to drive the fan on a factory C-16 engine, as a faster driven fan would obviously pull more air across the radiator. Could be lots of different things, but if you're confident everything is functioning as it should, I'd start checking part numbers on everything in the cooling system and related components to make certain they were identical across both engine families.

The 6999 is a pretty hot code for a stock 6nz. Depends on which file he used if it was 7cz I would run a 5232 code and ride. Of course the 58 injectors or a marine cam would be the way to go but the factory 6nz will do fine. I don't know which turbo you have but it could be getting overworked causing the heat issue.

the 6969 crap is prolly the problem only runs 1000 but some cylinders are way hotter than others when it mixes in the turbo it looks good comeing out the back side put the stock numbers on an see for yourself

The C-16 has a different crank with a longer stroke creating more cubic inches, and there is no substitution for cubic inches. You can put all the "hot" codes in it you want but if you don't have the cubes to use it efficiently your just blowing smoke literally. Hauling heavy is the biggest contributor to the excessive water heat, and the wrong codes are just compounding the problem. IMO(and just my opinion) He should go back to a 550 heavy haul/brake-saver flash, and code the injectors correctly, if that doesn't do it for him then he can upsize the turbo and injectors, and there are several people on here that are way more qualified to advise exactly which ones will give what results.
