    I recently heard that you cannot work more than 7 days straight even if u have time available. Can anyone tell me if this is true? I know that if you worked 9 hoursa a day, then you could go on forever and not reset. Has there been a recent change to this rule? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    OK lets get the facts straight. You can work as many hrs a day that you want. You just can't DRIVE after the 14th hr. But you can work as many hrs as you like. You must take a 10 break after 14 hrs of work OR 11 hrs of driving Which every comes first. In order to be able to drive again. You can work as many hrs as you have available for as many days as you want. If you run out of hrs in 4 days then you are done. If you have the hrs to work for 20 day then go for it.

    Ok, let me restate this if I can. I dont care about the 14 hour rule. I know that you can work till the end of time but can only drive a certain # of hours. Let me restste the question, If i work and drive 9 hours a day combined, thats working and driving everyday, can i go on forever or does the law say that after 7 days I have to do a reset of 34 hours? Is there an easy answer for this without all kind of different opinions and "rules". I'm just looking for a straight answer and not all kinds of opinions on how to run a log book. Just a simple question looking for a simple answer. Hope this clears anything up and once again thanks for the help.

    A recent change was the 34 hour restart, that went into effect in 2004, the same time as 11 hours driving time per cycle with 10 hours off duty.
    What you heard was wrong.

    If you don't work(driving time and on duty not driving time) more than an average of 8 and 3quarters hours per day, you can work indefinitely, because the hours worked the 1st day are removed from the total at midnight on the 8th day giving you back those hours, the 9th day becomes the new 8th day and the 2nd becomes the new 1st day. The cycle is repeated at midnight every day until you get a restart.

    You can work after the 14 and after the 70 but you can't legally drive a commercial vehicle until you have had 10 hours off duty or sleeper combined, and you have hours available on the 8th day of the 70 hours.

    The 34 hour restart can be seen as 10 hours plus 1 day, and it has been the most attacked part of the rule change by the so called safety groups. In essence, it allows you to start from scratch and makes figuring your available hours much easier as long as you can get a day off in addition to the 10 hours. It's also easier for law enforcement in my experience.

    If only working 9 hours a day then you may have to take a "break" to keep running.

    At 9 hours a day, you would run out of hours in about 7 and 3/4 days.

    Now if you are running local , under the 150 mile rule (can't remember off the top of my head) and not crossing international borders, then yes you can work every day as long as you have 12 hours off duty (not sleeper berth) before each shift.

    Yes, work till you drop dead. As long as you have the hrs, work, work, work. Work 100 days straight if you want.

    The K.I.S.S. answer;

    As long as you don't run out of hours you can work 700 days straight! NOWHERE in the FMCSA do you see a total amount of days allowed to work! Or a limit!

    Case closed on this one!

    I was stopped back in 1999 by a Virginia DOT officer who looked at my log book. He said, you didn't take a week end off. I said, I took the break at home as required by law.

    If you only worked and drove 8.75 hours a day, you could do that as long as you wanted, and not exceed the 70 hour rule.

    But if you go to Canada they require a 24 hour break every 14 days . You'd better have logs for the past 14 days for them to check
