Had a ticket like that in my pickup years ago and was a Virginia resident as well, went to court with my clean driving record and a letter stating my speedometer was off. Judge had me take a DD course and told me no tickets in his count for a year and nothing would show.
Did as he said and never did show up, it is worth the time if you can and to be honest I would not say nothing to the court system until the court date.
Lawyer yes, court system no.

Again, thanks to all for your input. I see that some a unsympathetic and claim I have no respect....good thing I wasnt looking for sympathy. I have a solid offer and will start orientation on the 8th of May. I will attempt to discuss a "deal" with the DA to see if we can come to a compromise that doesnt add points to my license. If that fails, I'll contact a Lawyer. I hope to not have to go that route, but will if need be.

My experience with tickets I that all the DA cares about is collecting money...so they usually have no problem changing the ticket to somthing that won't go on your MVR...usually for a little more than the cost of the ticket. Its a legal shakedown where everybody wins

Thats sucks, if you were going down a steep grade you could try to plea it down to a coasting violation, still have to pay the fine but no points on driving record. Have to go to court on it and the issueing officer has to agree to it, the judge wont do it

Having a clean record, I would hope they would be lenient and reduce it to a non-moving violation. I'm sure there will be a requirement that I have no more violation for a certain amount of time. I'll give it a shot. If I can't be accommodated, I'll pay a Lawyer. If nothing else, they may be able to drag it out so it wouldn't be adventitious for the court to draw a line and be hardnosed. I would hope they would take into consideration that I drive for a living and not looking for anything out of the norm. I just screwed up (no exuses).

I guess I could let them know @ orientation. All of this happened after I was hired, but before I started. Right now there is nothing on my DMV report as it has not been entered into the records (innocent until proven guilty). Even if I was to end up with a speeding fine, and I hope not, it's still less than they require for past penalties before not hiring. I think the courts will be fair as long as I pay until it hurts.

how is 70mph in a big truck a high rate of speed? so what i am deriving from your comment is that even if the posted limit is 70,if driver is doing 70 in a big truck, that driver is driving at a high rate of speed?
