Trying to make sure that you are aware that the first violation doesn’t get you suspended.

Just FYI, he was going 12 MPH over the limit, not 15.

Ok that’s SD. Never been there. I believe Federal rules are 2, 15 overs within 3 yrs. gets a 3 mo. Suspension. 3rd one gets you an additional 3 months. On a side note, I got one in Mi. back in 2004, 71 in a 55. It’s still on my record. I called Lansing and was told it stays on for 72? years. I’ll be 112 when it comes off. Looking forward to the day! Lol. As mentioned, every State is different. Louisiana is usually pretty Lax on enforcement of any traffic law. They drive crazy. No point system. Pay and keep driving. I rolled a car down there in 1985. Wreckless Driving. Went to Court, paid $35. Done deal. I remember thinking “I love this State”. Lol. Live and Learn.

Yea i saw that right after i posted to ride hence my edit. Mouth got ahead of brain. And ill own it. I know a lot, but i do get things wrong. And i dont go bsck to edit when i screwed up. If im wrong and get called out i deserve it imo. Even if i dont like it :p

Though thinking about it in SD they WILL change you both for 15 over AND reckless if you do 15 over in a CMV so it may be the same regardless. Regardless like i said i stand by my sentiment. 12 over is stupid and if i find myself in the position of the same i fully expect and deserve to be called out if i make excuses.

Yea i know, thats why i said NEAR 15 over. I mostly threw the 15 over on because my brain remimbered 15 over in SD as an instant disqualification. I was wrong about that part. But still. It was intended to make a point.

Yea SD is usually pretty lax on most stuff. But since we upped the limit on 29 to 80 and most back roads to 65. They get pretty pissy over speed. Bad brake light? No issue. Little heavy, whatever. Speeding they will nail your ### to a cross.

Explains a lot. I got my 15 over a couple months before Mi. went from 55/70 to 65/70. The DOT Officer was a Legend, “ Baldy Bear”. Super a-hole. He was screaming like I’d committed murder. I later met his brother in law, a Trucker. Said he once gave him a ticket. Lol.

Yup thats what happened on my 3 over lol. When i first moved up there i didnt know about the 65 to 25 speed trap and didnt see the sign till the last #### second and only just got my rig doen to 28. You would think i just plowed through a crowd of kids with the way he came unglued.

"Berry" is VERY well known by the locals as a raging #######. Which is sad because everyone else at that department is chill. They will still ticket you for speeding but otherwise will just fingerwag at you. Good drinking buddys too.

No, it is not an abuse of power. One of the many things motor carrier enforcement looks at is compliance with state and local laws, which include speeding. It is a legit violation to be included in the DVIR they completed after the inspection. The roadside inspection is not just for the truck, it is for compliance will all roadway user laws such as speed, weight, traffic signs, route restrictions, etc.

In fact, many states will use the speeding violation, without issuing a citation, as an excuse to pull you over for an inspection because they require probable cause to inspect a vehicle for violations. These states will violate you for just 1 or 2 over the limit, using the speed 5 MPH or less over, and there is no way to really challenge it. At least with a citation, if you get the citation dismissed they must remove the speeding from your CSA score, and if it is amended then they must reduce the points on the CSA score.
