yes you can do that, the 8hr needs to be logged as sleeper though...
Bigchevy Thanks this. -
Ok i have only done the split a couple times. Dont really like doing it unless i half to
-
No. The 8 and 2 rules mean 8 hours consecutive in the sleeper with at least 2 hours off duty. You cannot spend 8 hrs in the sleeper then go on duty to unload then take your 2 hours later. Its 10 consecutive hours off duty
-
I would do the 8 drive for 2-3 hrs get unloaded. Do my 2 then get down the road

The sleeper berth provision allows a driver to accumulate the required ten hours of rest in two separate periods. One period of at least 8 consecutive hours in the sleeper berth. The other rest period least 2 consecutive hours of either sleeper berth, off duty or combination of both.
Now the confusing part, splitting the breaks does not reset your hours. The first break whether it is the 8 hr or the 2hr, counts towards the 14 hours you are on duty. It only stops the clock and lets you have the remaining hours you did not use. When you take the second break your hours are recalculated back to the first break and you will only get back the hours you used before the first break.Bigchevy, tangerineGT and ironpony Thank this. -
Ask 10 people and ya get 10 different answers for this..... gotta be the most confusing rule we have.....
-
The 8 and 2 rule is retarded, why couldn't they just allow us to take any combination that we wanted like it used to be.
