8 and 2 split

    When running your hours can you actually run more miles by using the 8-2 split? Does it work well with recap hours the next week?

    You're limited to 70 hours/week resetting, 61.25 recapping. You can easily do either without 8/2 split.

    The 8/2 split is better for getting a long load from point A to point B faster -- especially if you're stuck at the shipper for at least 2 hours. It also ads flexibility if you need to stop for longer than 30 minutes along the way

    you drive the same amount of time. wether it's split or not. so no, you don't drive more miles.

    however, the time of day in which you are driving. DOES influence the amount of miles you drive. (avoiding rush hour traffic)

    I'd advise you to consult an attorney to bring suit against whatever school district allegedly taught you arithmetic, and miserably failed.

    8/2's work great to salvage loading and unloading days.

    picture058.jpg picture059.jpg Works for me. I do them so I don't have to take the darn tootin 30 min break, Had cruise set at 62. Get tired just pull over take your 8 hr or 2 hr break and keep on trucking. It also helps for those of us who can't sleep for long periods of time. Also helps like the on guy said to avoid the traffic jams. I took my break early so I wouldn't be stuck in the nashville traffic. Break should be up about the time people are getting home. Also you have to manage it good because like now I think I'll need 6 hours to finish my trip but my hours coming back might be 5 so I think to avoid having to stop again I'll take the full 10.

    That is the best you can maintain since last year's HOS change -- 70 hours/week on reset or 70 hours/8 days on recap.

    You could make a feeble argument emphasizing the ability to run over 80hours/week your first week on reset, but you would have to wait 160 hours before your 2nd reset limiting week 2 productivity to ~60 hours (average of 70 hours/week). Likewise you could run 10 hours/day on recap for 70 hours in 7 days, but then you would have to wait a day before recapping anything and would ultimately finish week 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 with 60 hours (for an average of 61.25 hours/week)

    Not sure why you insist on hostility, but if you were to drive 10 hours/day Sunday through Saturday, you would have zero hours available to drive on the second Sunday.

    The 8th day is the Sunday after you drove your 70th hour on Saturday. At one minute past midnight on Sunday morning, the hours you drove the preceding Sunday become available once again.

    Hostile? Nope.

    Sorry, I meant Sunday not Monday. So assuming you drove 10 hours/day Sunday through Saturday, you would have zero hours available on the 2nd Sunday (having used all 70 hours in 7 days). You would recap 10 hours on Monday, 10 on Tuesday... and so on until having to take the following Monday off.


    Alternatively, you could stick to 8.75 hours/day and never have to take a day off. 8.75 * 7 = 61.25 hours/week.
