I know this topic has been gone over, but I can’t find any clear answers. Business model has changed and two drivers do 6-8 days OTR/month. They keep a perfect log book. Never over 8 days. I just got a warning letter from FMCSA that in 3 roadside inspections, all was great, but they won’t accept the log books. They do say it’s just a warning. I don’t know whether to write them back and show the loop we do once a month and it complies with the 8 day and our books are flawless or just pay the $1000/month and put ELDs in all 5 trucks. Probably closer to $1500/month. It’s just wasted money and about $15000/year, but the threat from FMCSA was very real. I’m guessing you guys will all recommend the ELDs, but I’d love some thoughts
8 days a month OTR with paper logs?

What was the reason that they gave for not accepting the log books? And what are the model years of your trucks?

It’s not 8 days in a month, it’s 8 days in a 30 day period. So you’d need to schedule everything to make sure that nobody logs more than 8 days in a rolling 30 day period to avoid ELD’s.

Keep doing what you are doing until the fine comes then take it to the black robe, the drivers would of been placed OOS and fined were they not compliant, just make sure they dont fo it within 30 days not a month
providing it is only 8 days and not “8 days”Siinman, shatteredsquare, bryan21384 and 1 other person Thank this.
