2007 Volvo 780 with d12 engine, 12 speed ZF Meritor automated tranny and 3.58 rears. Donaldson free flow muffler. Run at 58 mph with rpm at 1350. Between 7.8 and 8.2 when loads are below 25k. I don't run anything over 35k but I did pull a 41k load as a favor from Dallas to Vegas last week and got 6.7. I track my mpg on tank gallons not what the ECM says. The ECM can be up to 10% off either way.

You have Troubles with you EGR-DPF or other Problems with this Engine
-
So true. Wish my actual pump to pump numbers were as good as what shows in the ECM data display!

Cowpie, do you think your setup would work if you were grossing 100k on six axles with every load ? Just wondering .......
-
Yes, Gerardo, i had problems when was new; because i was one of the first the dumb a.. to swallow the new emission technology;
;; injector caps, sensors, replaced exhaust manifold twice;clean the DPF filter the REGEN used to run every day after 400-500 miles. But after some recall upgrades and $$$$ , Volvo replaced cooper injector caps with steel caps and new injectors; the REGEN sofware was upgrated, now i need REGEN only after aprox 2000 miles; also the manifold was upgrated last year , the new one takes better the back pressure. Most of the problems were emission related, but i replaced the EGR and DPF filter last year for first time, after 900,000 miles.I still have the original turbo, but i replaced the turbo actuator twice. I spent some $$ on this problems, but this motor is great on fuel, more power overall better than my last truck,( Volvo 770,2001, Detroit D60); if is going to blow up, i'll rebuild it and keep the truck. I know the dash mpg could be off, but i did dozens of measurements off ECM, inbetween refuelings and got aprox same MPG.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
What are your mpg when you are fighting the winds?
Yesterday I had 6.8 mpg with 43K in the box. But I had a dead tailwind.
Today going the opposite direction, same road, with 14K in the box, I got 5.7 mpg.
