Not common in general trucking, but, as I mentioned, fairly common here due to the prevalence of oilfield/heavy haul trucking. Here, they are most often used during road bans/spring break up for rig moves... put enough wheels under it and you can move anything.

Even more specialized; these are platform trailers (aka: modular trailers. Also available in self-propelled flavours, known as SPMTs). This is eight, six line (axle) platforms bolted together in tandem, so... 16 wheels per axle (times 24 axles... carry the one... 384 tires... pre-trip is gonna take awhile o_O)

And that just scratches the surface of multi-wheel, multi-axle specialized trailers... but now back to your regularly scheduled thread on which states recognize eight-wheel axles. :)

If you had a tandem in one side of your load and on the other side of it another tandem essentially in a lane next over. What does that make you? Still 34K or you up to 68K

Sorry if it is a stupid question. I zeroed on the magic words 8 per axle.

Probably see those just as often as regular tandem and tridem beds up here in the north. But then again we see a lot of tandem, tridem and 16 wheel jeeps as well as tandem boosters too.
