Back to the question you asked when you started this thread.
Good or bad idea?
I vote bad idea.
The time and $$$$$ involved are ......
A complete rebuild is needed.
But in the end it is your call.
And if you do the rebuild i will watch you on youtube.![]()

A pretty nice looking 83 model on the anchorage craigslist for 3 grand. At least the pictures look good, that don't always mean much.
Ezrider_48501 Thanks this. -
im guessing if i do get it,it will probably take me a year or two to actually get it finished to the point of putting it on the road again. if i do get it there will most defiantly be video's of it on youtube. if enough people were to want to watch it be restored it could potentially help offset the cost some. im thinking i still currently want it but i also think im going to hold firm at my offer on it. so i guess were see. i really wasn't looking for a new project right now so i could live without it..lol
the nice thing about finding one local is its easy to go look at it multipul times and little/no transportation costs to get it home. if you had to fly somewhere to look at a truck and then pay to have it transported could easly add 1000's to the price. this truck is parked along my route between my shop to my house. witch is how i found it without looking for it.....lolBigBob410, Crude Truckin', Tug Toy and 5 others Thank this. -
Ok so answer is it's a fake 359. That's all I needed to know. I don't care for fake.
I want a 1979 shaker FLA.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Bought mine from a picture on the computer. Blown engine, been setting for 2 yrs in the weeds. Tow bill was $1200. I spent a good 18 months going through it front to back, including a engine. But guess what? It’s payed for itself and is now my bread winner.....BigBob410, FoolsErrand, Tug Toy and 10 others Thank this.

I am afraid the tow bill to get this one down there would be a little more than that, but not as much as a guy thinks either. Freight moves pretty cheap that direction. lol
I don't know that it is a good deal for anybody, but going by what I saw of the pictures, it may well be a good deal for someone in this area.
I went down to anchorage and got an old 39 fired up fro a friend a couple of years ago and towed it back for him, it was sporting a 3408, as far as I know he never did anything else with it, and sold it a few months ago. It went down south.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
well there is a picture of it sitting in front of my shop. I would guess you know what that means......lol

I've seen worse looking trucks than that sitting on the fuel island

Congratulations, You can put $140,000 into it. Then drive around the Peterbilt lot. Your truck would be the best one on the lot.
When you are done you will know every nut, bolt, airline, wire and component on the truck. Not many guys know their truck that well. No one with a new truck does.

Did you get it for your offer, either way I think you did good.
Now, move the rear spring hanger on the front springs back 1 1/4 inches to make her ride good.
I have put new springs, roller bearing bushings and never got a 359 to where my back could take them, you have to change the angle on the shackles..FoolsErrand, FlaSwampRat, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
well i didn't exactly get my offer for it. he would have done the 7500 without the new roof cap and sleeper boot he had for it. i ended up giving him 8500 to include those parts and a decent front bumper. he has to go pick up the roof cap from some other place and bring it out to me yet. but i figured those aditional parts were probably worth the little bit extra vrs having to source them. pay/ship them. so i caved a little we went back and forth on it a while. but it really runs very good. fired right up within a half a second on a cold start (well as cold as the engine could be on a 75-80 degree day) drives down the road pretty good trans feels nice and tight. shifts better than my mack. although i did end up having some issues with both the range select and high low split on my way home. thinking air line issue but it got cought half way threw the shift and wouldent engauge back in till i stopped. if it was one or the other i would suspect somthing in the transmission but both and the fact it also shifted flawlessly other times makes me think a air supply issue. will have to do some poking around on that. and the jakes are not working. but the engine runs very smooth with no visable blowby. its very responsive and spunky bobtail. ran clean. a little black haze when you would step on it but it wasn't rolling coal.BigBob410, Crude Truckin', speedyk and 8 others Thank this.
