Hello all new here and no too familiar with these big motors. CAT 3406 333 hp
I have a older 1988 freightliner with 78k miles on it. It has been parked for a few years. Started right up a few days ago but I notices quite a bit of smoke coming from the Oil dip stick and the oil fill tube ran it for about 45min and no changes. I am assuming or hoping that this will settle down or go away if I drive the truck for about 50 miles or so. I find it hard to believe that the rings or the sleeve could be bad with only 74k miles on it.

3000 miles a year seems legit .. If it actually is that low of mileage cylinders can be rusty or rings stuck. Not to mention seals and guides . Sitting is the worse thing for a engine. Everything dries and cracks. All you can do it run it and change oil asap after getting hot it may smoke less.
