Hi, I've been driving for a local company for 9 months that had a class B International. Yesterday they just bought a non-cdl Hino (13,000) load limit. By driving this truck, is it still considered professional driving experience or an I just wasting my cdl? I have a gut feeling they are going to ask me to take a pay cut which I will not do nor train anybody so they can get rid of me and pay some chump $9.00 an hour to do a very physically demanding job. What should I do?

KrisPB, Dude, is driving a Taxi considered professional driving experience? How about a 1 ton P-U ? A 6 wheel box truck with vacuum brakes ? Sorry, I don't think so. Dude, get away from the Tonka toys and step up and play with the big boys. Diesel singing, 18 wheels humming, country tunes on the FM radio, can you say "King of the road?"

How about Jokers Wild ? 100,000 people out of work in the last year . Rates cut back to the 70's .
He has a good local job . He'd be smart to keep it . Looks like right now there may be a need for some Class B snow plow drivers there .
KrispB , I haven't been in that area in a while but have you tried Hill Food Service ? Also check with towing companies . There used to be a big vehicle recovery company on 140 in Bellingham that ran 4 car carriers all over NE and NJ . There is a lot of Class B work in that area that is better than OTR .

    doubledragon5 and krispb Thank this.

Thanks for all the reply's! I got a straight up answer (I hope) from the companies owner. I will not be asked to take a paycut because I'm an "excellent" employee! He personally called all of "my customers" and they all told him I was the best driver this company ever had, very personable, very hard working and and a great company representitive. I would love to go over the road someday but my father recently passed away and I had to move back home to help my mother out. She's 69 years old and I will not let her shovel snow or loose the house or God forbid something happens and no one is around to help her!

Big Duker and RickG Thank this.

That is a good reason to stay home! Better than mine for sure!

Not to hijack (well, kinda), but is it possible to start driving trucks locally straight out of school? I really don't think I would adjust well to OTR, but want a new job that doesn't involve sales.

You might have better luck posting in the seek employment section . Post your location so members can be more helpful . Check with local votech training centers and see if they have placed drivers with any local companies .
