I wasn't laughing at the fuel prices. Just the thought of only the guys getting higher fuel mileage will survive.

You have to keep in mind that most out here getting really good fuel mileage are doing so cause that is the only way they generate a profit. When fuel goes up they are usually the first to go due to the fact they didn't make enough to begin with.

    Not true!

I do alot of O/S and O/W loads that pay $5 per mile and up.

Fuel is the largest expense in trucking and if you can cut that cost by as much as $.30 per mile that looks better in your pocket than the truckstops that sale fuel. Why throw money away?

Trucks that get great fuel mileage are also better maintained because they have the money to maintain them from fuel savings. Just look at those crappy trucks pulling containers with most exceeding the speed limit everywhere they go and most are just one breakdown from being out of business.

If you guys that love Classic model types trucks and want a brand new one better buy in 2012 or 2013 because thanks to the Obama Administration's mandate 23% better big truck fuel effiency standards starting in 2014 model trucks has them discontinued in 2014 that includes maybe Western Star going by the way side.

Aero Trucks only in the future.

    Story here: http://content.usatoday.com/communi...unces-new-fuel-standards-for-heavy-vehicles/1

Well, it seems to me, that it only leads to situation, where you won't be able to have anything which is really yours, and you will be obligated to use the same truck, which everybody uses. We had it before, it was called Communism, and it kinda didn't work.

I doubt that it will kill western star. Look at a 386 pete, it's just a 379 with a set back axle and a sloped hood & fairings over the tanks. I'm sure western star can design an aero hood and put some plastic around the tanks too.

    well this is pretty unreal

it would be far easier to make more fuel efficient cars most of cars on US roads are overdimensioned and they take at least 2x more fuel than is necessary

It's kinda funny how the US gov. wants better fuel economy but yet the VW polo blue motion that gets 80mpg is not availavle to the US market...............figure that one out.

i mean it is not necessary that anyone drive polo but

5-6L engines and big SUV-s are absolutely unnecessary

my golf get up to 60mpg on open road

if you ride it very fast it is still on 40mpg

but it suffers from city driving i can hard reach 33mpg

but 23% for trucks is big thing

i think in last 25-30years fuel economy is improved for this amount
