Well, I'm catching up to the guy in Denver. Got a grip of endorsements and Passport, planning Twic card for future use. Still in school out in a couple with May prehire burning a hole in my pocket. I like the idea of switching off driving with my trainer, and learning as much as I can. Just don't really want a owner operator 2 months behind on his truck payments. LOL.
That wide open Western 11 is calling........
$ 90.00 day flat pay option for rookies, miles weekly wages after that? solo out.

Owner ops don't train

When you are in this business for a while, you will understand.
I am an Owner/Op .. My truck payment is $1,549.00. Month. I stay home 1 full week a month. Now, lets think of what kind of money I am making to be able to do that .. By the way, 1 week on the road more than pays my truck payment ..JCB & Associates Thanks this. -
And like Joker said .. At May, Owners don't train.

Not for three months though. $90/day period.

After 1 year, leave the entry level company and go to an experienced only company or look for local work.
As far as being an Owner/Op .. Thats a bit different. You MUST understand business, you are a business owner. You need to learn and understand the cut throat business called Trucking. Its not for everyone, but the options are many and the rewards high. If you have support from yer family.
I would be company for a year .. Learn, learn and then learn more. Its at that point you can evaluate if being an Owner/Op is best for you. Remember, we all see all these big companies on the road like Swift, Werner, Schneider and so on ...but, 70% of all the trucks you see on the road are Owner/Ops with 3 trucks or less, thats the real Trucking Business.
If this becomes your choice, and you have a down payment and have reasonable credit, buy a truck from a dealer rather than doing a lease/purchase from a trucking company. That is usually many peoples only way of getting a truck (it was mine, worked on credit and once I paid that truck off, I sold it and bought my dream truck .. A Long Nose Pete).
There is a lot to think about .. Take your time. -
11 more loads, more docks, more chances to be delayed. you also have more chances to drop freight (t call) and keep moving. You will often load/reload in the same day followed usually by short 500 mile burst, load/reload no longer then every other day. Many of your 10 hr breaks could be spent at a dock .. 11 western is a harder hustle then 48 imo, however I don't believe you have to go far from home to make good money!
Would you agree Paloma?
