The harness you are holding on to, that end plug that is round, if it is sorta flexible it goes onto either an air switch, like a brake switch, or reverse switch on the trans. Due to the location you found it I think it may be a reverse switch plug for the trans.

hmm wonder why it would be unplugged...
all 3 of those plugs are 2 wire plugs.. -
Ok, here is the diagram for your truck. You have regular electrical gauges even though you have a N14 engine, so you have separate speedo and engine speed sensors. There should be a sensor for the engine speed and it needs to go into the bell housing. It will read engine speed from the ring gear. This sensor is usually on the bottom half of the bell housing, but they can be higher if there is a threaded hole for it. I think they used to be around the 7-8 o'clock spot. The wiring in the diagram should match. International always had good wire marking. They are numbered and colour coded too. You'll see some wires with id's like 48A 16LT GN. This means it is wire number 48A, (should say 48A right on it), 16 gauge wire size, light green in colour. The blocks with numbers are your connectors, like 35 and 36, those are right at the cluster. Connectors 2 and 3 are your main firewall inside to outside connectors. That harness you have in your hand may have one connector that is suppose to go the engine speed sensor. Good luck! Let me know how you make out!

ok great! this should take me a long way. so it looks like each sensor is a 4 wire, and that harness im holding could be the plugs for one sensor. now i need to find the bellhousing sensor (whcih should be the tach gauge im assuming). ill get back over there and see what i find!

and if i remember right..one of those plugs was 2 black wires, i cant remember what the other small plug was. and if by any chance, does that book have a part number on the speed sensor and tach sensor?
-
No, sorry. No part numbers. It does have the resistance range though, that should help if you find any used or aftermarket ones.

find the problem with your truck? i have a 97 9700 cab over same problem tach and speedo max out and go back to zero when key is turned on but then do not work i think my rpms are restricted ,probably becuase of one of the guages not working ,,,what sensor runs each on an m 11 cummins has a super 10 ? any help would be appreciated i was told cam sensor measured for the tach
-
Yours is a bit newer and will have a different datalink driven tach module. The Tach and speedo data are both feed from the engine. If the speedo works, but not the tach, I would say your cluster module is no good. If the engine had a bad cam sensor it wouldn't even start.

actually i left it alone. i did buy one of the sensors but havent put it in yet...still sitting in my truck. i get it back from the shop tomorrow and i can let u know which one i got.

Hello guys, im rewiring a 9200i 1994 cluster, the reason im rewiring it, is because it got the engine swap from detroit s60 to a n14, i found the diagram posted above very helpful but on the speedometer box connector theres also a pink wire, i got the tachometer, the j1587 connector and the voltage gauge working but the speedometer, ecm doesnt have an output signal from factory, i assume it reads straight from the pick up sensor, thanks in advance
