the hole idea is make sure you do your maintanence on time and at home...and when a little problem arices take care of it before it becomes a major problem on the road......
blairandgretchen and 77fib77 Thank this. -
get a 386. but have fun finding a cheap one with low miles. if u want a glider get any of the 3 motors. t660 is a good truck for a glider. my opinion. BUT CAT OVER ANYTHING. 6nZ GaNg

I am not finding low mile 386s but if i have one that is a good truck i would not mind rebuilding the motor and keeping it verses a 9400 international that is an old body style....thats what i am trying to do I found 2 in SC just under a million miles for $29K on the truck papper..that seems like a good deal.... -
As long as your OK with probably having about double that or much more into it within a year or two's time. It'll soon be ready for an inframe and a myriad of other worn out components before then to nickel and dime you to death.

well what are the alternatives.....i will not buy a truck newer than 2007..no DPF...and you will never find any trucks with low miles....i would concider a 2007 truck with a million miles on it and a rebuilt motor...with papperwork...as long as it was a truck i was willing to keep for a few years than glider it out -
I'm kind of late to the party but I've been looking at a few macks as well in the age range you're looking for. I haven't seen many that had full in frames as early as you're saying but many had cam issues early on and had those replaced with the update early in life

For me looking back I would have been just as well to spend more and get something much newer with a lot less miles. Really financing a brand new truck would have been the way to go. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I bought my truck cheap (750k miles) back in Feb 2009. The good low miles less than 500,000 pre-emissions trucks were still plentiful then.
