95 t600 tach gauge problem?

    95 kW with super 10 and s60. All the gauges work properly, including speedo. But the tach will just kind of sit at a spot for a while, then every once in a while will twitch and move but not be showing correct rpms. It doesn't sit at 0 when shut off, and it doesn't move when accelerating, decceling, or cruising. Sometimes it will move a little. We have put a good gauge on it and it showed the same thing. Does anyone know where the tach sensor is and how to replace it? If so I need to know fast bc it has to be fixed tomorrow morning. Thanks

    It's in the bell housing to the best of my knowledge. Loosen the jam nut, turn it in till it hits the flywheel, count those turns, then back it all the way out. Put in the new one by hand, till it touches the flywheel, back it out same as the other was set at, tighten jam nut, plug and play.

    If it has a tach sensor, it will be in the flywheel housing running off the flywheel teeth, they just unscrew. It may just need to be adjusted. You turn it in all the way, then back it out 3/4-1 turn and tighten the lock nut. If it doesn't have a sensor, then it uses an RPM signal from the ECM. That should be a DDEC III (or it may have been replaced with a DDEC IV).

    In either case, you need to diagnose the issue. You could have a wiring issue, bad sensor or the sensor could have come loose and backed out.

    Oh also the odometer doesn't work. It will twich every once in a while but it doesn't work. Same problem as tach?

    If the speedo works OK, then I'd say that you have a bad speedo head.
