96 cat 3406e oil pressure

    I am noticing at an idle my oil pressure is at 20psi and when I drive it is 50 but at high gear such as 9 th gear low rpm such as 1200 my oil pressure drops from 50 to about 43.. It comes back up higher rpm but in 10 my oil pressure drops to about the same but does not rise up to 50 at higher rpm but to about 48.... Is this normal for cat is there something that can be going wrong? My oil is clean no soot fresh oil change and oil is full... Please and thank you....

    That's at low rpm it drops but when I get above 1300 rpm the oil pressure comes up

    It's been a few months since I've driven it, but IIRC my '86 3406B runs 40 at cruise and ~22 hot idle.

    I drove my 3406e for 8 years with oil pressure 22 psi at idle and 45 at 1300 rpms...

    I think you will be ok to run it with the current oil pressure that you have described. Generally the 3406e has higher pressure, so you may want to get it looked at. It could be an oil regulator. Have you had the bearings or anything done on the lower end that they would need to drop the oil pan?

    My 3406E 5EK idles at 40 and cruises around 65.

    I did just get oil change recently and they used the 5 gallon rotella I love the oil but I like the one gallon I believe maybe the 5 gallon was to thin oil cause when I look at oil looks very thin I added lucas and my oil pressure is running 55 cruise and 28 idle... As far as work I believe to be told there is 400k on in frame whether true or not matter of the guys word and his paper work.

    could be a weak regulator on oil pump or bad o-ring on pickup tube or clogged filter or bearing going bad which an oil sample will show that. or just a different brand of oil. just a few things off the top of my head I can think of.
