Well I have 3 million on my 12.7. turned up to a 575 I have seen 12.7 built up to 600 plus road trucks and have seen one 1000 hp road truck. I just love my Detroit 12.7 though now a 14l I wont touch just like any other newer motor....

Would do 12.7 easier to get mpg out of it but then the cat is easier to drive then detroit atleast for me. to me it's like comparing big block motor to small block one likes rpms and other gives you tons of torque. Get one of each lol. Or 12.7 with 700hp marine cam 702 bw turbo and a good tune would make good 12.7 be a little hot rod.

Yes a Cat can last just as long as a Detroit or longer, but like everything else its a preference.

Driven both and CAt wins hands down on power on long grades etc. 12.7 was good little motor and very good on fuel as long as you weren't trying to keep up with Cat. Cheaper to repair Detroit. Cat will always win on resale value. Guess it depends on what you're hauling and where. I drive with a guy who has our only Cummins. Pre EGR ISX I think. That is one running son of a gun. I think it is like 560hp. They turned it down cause he was running 80+ way too much. Cut him back to 74mph.

what about c12 410hp??? 1998 ... can that motor even hit 900k miles?

Not being a smart *** as print never comes off the way intended, but am curious.

I'd get the detroit S60 in a heartbeat.

Detroit s60 all the way... By experience at my company, the older detroit S60 motors all have well over a million miles, and some rebuilt and others not and they still running strong. I have 1.7million miles on my work tractor. Now the trucks with the cats for one, get worst fuel mileage and for two, seem to not last as long. There's been quite a few trucks with cats getting rebuilt because the motors blew and it cost them $12000 for the parts to rebuild it. Not saying every cat cost $12,000 in parts to repair, just what it cost my company for the overhaul kits with turbos.
