• Please note: Codes 43, 44, and 45 are critical codes and if they are shown, the Stop Engine Light will come on which causes the engine protections to engage and your engine may shut down.
• All other codes will cause the Check Engine Light to come on which will not engage the engine protections and will allow the engine to continue running.

Sounds like you have a short in the wiring by the code. But you need the numbers that follow the code 62 to narrow it down. There should be a SID and FMI number after the 62.

About the only 2 things that will shut the engine down is a lack of fuel or loss of power to the ECM. So maybe the short is directly related to the ECM. Maybe the ECM hot wire rubbed the insulation off and is barely touching ground or something similar. You can look at the little wire coming off the battery hot and see if you see any insulation damage. It would have to be before the inline fuse or it would of blown the fuse.

Other than that if you can't get the full code the laptop will have to be hooked up to retrieve it.

 

Code 62 code 62, Doctor Detroit....we have a code 62. If your truck is running but the engine check lite stays on, a fault remains in the buffer log...and can only be cleared by Doctor Detroit and his Techs at the shop. I had a fault/engine check lite on my Pete for a couple of months due to a injector that malfuctioned, the CAT was fine, even though the light was on.

 

if im not mistaken, only flash codes on a 99 no SID or fmi numbers.....

 

I believe on that truck you push and hold down a certain button for like 3 seconds for further diagnostics or it requires the laptop like dusty said the full code is in the buffer log. I'm just going by the code chart for a Series 60 DDEC IV which that truck has. There are several possibilities and the SID and FMI would help narrow it down. It's a yellow code so it points to a specific item shorting out.

That is correct. Hold the shutdown override button. The shutdown light (red) will flash active codes, the warning (amber) will flash inactive. Code 25 is "No codes". Active codes will go inactive once fixed, but the only way to clear inactive faults is with a laptop.

 

What type of software are y'all running on your labtop? Also, where does one go to purchase it?

 

I have DDDL, you get it from Detroit. Expensive and not worth it unless you have a fleet or repair shop. The best option I found for owner ops or small fleets is PF Diagnose. http://www.pocketfleetdiagnosticsolutions.com/ It can't do everything OEM software can do, but it can do a lot for the price.
