My 99 Century cruise control functions normally when parked and I set cruise and idle up RPM's. The problem starts when I'm running, turn cruise on/off switch to on. Cruise will set itself at whatever speed I'm doing and accelerate to its max. Brake disconnect functions, set, pause etc... all seem to work except it seems to have a mind of its own and takes off. Can anyone help? Thanx!

disconnect switch first. if problem goes away - change switch, if not - inspect wires, especially in ECM area

Kinda sounds like a setting in the ecm I work on a fleet of dumps material trucks and mixers on the mixers after you turn the cruise on if you hit accelerate it goes to max rpms for loading its in the ecm settings I've seen a lot of times where the ecm parameters change on there own for somereason its someting to look into

Sounds like it has the special "Toyota" ECM flash!

Checked wires in he ECM area. Protective plastic covering around bundled wires leading to ECM had deteriorated/crumpled letting wires chafe against motor block. Installed replacement covering and cruise control is back to normal.. Thanx again.

insolate wires with hight quality electric band, else corrosion will destroy them this spring. and better change wiring with connectors. it is availble in shops.
