Ok I have an 05 International 9900i that sometimes randomly the speedometer stops working and goes to 0. Or sometimes it drops straight down and throws a check engine light. It happened rarely at first and has become more often and staying off longer when it happens. Any ideas where to start?

When the speedo drops out and you get a check engine light, this means the engine is losing vehicle speed signal. 9 times out of 10 the speedo sensor is bad, the other times you have a wiring problem. You can try changing the speedo sensor at the output shaft of the trans and see if this fixes it.

I considered that but it was recently replaced. Now it is not working more than it is, it only works maybe an hour a day

Well, you are probably looking a wiring problem between the sensor and engine. Follow the harness as best as possible. Also, unplug the connector at the sensor and check the pins for any green corrosion or if they look spread open.

Hopefully you see this. Did you ever find out the problem? I’m having the same issue
