9ll trans to 8ll trans

    what kinda change will I see if I do this???? the only gear that is diff. is on the lolo side????????will my mpg go down????

    I've never seen a 9 double L, only 8.

    The 8LL and 9LL are the same ratio in high gear assuming they're both overdrive transmissions so mileage will be the same. 9LL are used mostly in concrete trucks.

    thanks my truck has a 9ll in it now and having trouble with 1/5 gear found a 8ll from a buddy at a great price.....its all in a heavy spec dump truck....

    Depending if the 8ll is an overdrive because they did make some that had a 1:1 final ratio, but I think they where just low torque models. If not the are both .73:1 final ratio so you won't loose any mpg.
    You will loose the lo lo though because I think 8ll are about 19:1 overall ratio and the 9ll is 26:1 so you won't be able the split 1st gear.

    What problems are you have with it

    had a driver leave for work worked all day then parked the truck and went home..called back hr. later and said oh I forgot to tell you the truck want stay in 1 or 5 gear....it kicks out of gear some times it will stay in 1st for a min or so then kick it again........

    The only 8LL's that are direct drive are 900ft lbs or less. Don't ask me how I know. Had one in my truck for a few weeks. I'm sure the one he has is an O.D.
