Best practice, and the drier is not usually expensive (usually about 20-30$ depending on type) but if its broken open for a very short period (an hr or so) and properly vacuumed, its not that critical. Better when humidity is low, more necessary the more humid it is

Sometimes it’s worth it to take to a Dealership.
I agree with you here. That's why we have shops and mechanics. With mass tools and training. -
Changing the parts probably isn't difficult.
But you could probably take it to a midas or whatever and have it charged.
They do have machines that will evactuate and throw in the desired weight amount without the truck even running. Just like the dealer has. And it might even be cheaper. Maybe.
But if a problem exists in the system then you'd need some help from a dealer or shop.Team818 Thanks this. -

I think it will be fine. Not like the crank exploded. This should be okay, I know everything is being done correctly. Didn't have to be towed in. BIG+ there. Good Day.

So did some calling around. Looks like monday its going to the nearest dealer as their the only ones who can GET the part because paccar. Plus in in the boonies a bit so i dont have the tools on me to just DIY the thing it also needs a few special tools i simply dont own as well. Hopefully they will have it. Plan B is a friend or family getting and overnighting the part from a diffrent city.
Just needs to make the 30 miles to the pete dealer. Figure ill be keeping my rpm down around 1200 to put as little stress on it as i can manage. Ill let you know how it turns out. Also it is going to be an entire new compressor. The cluch and compressor are apparently a solid peice and arent avalible as seperate parts. It sucks but at least my AC will be nice and cold for the rest of summer and its a fairly simple fix. Cant see it taking more then 3 or 4 hours of labor either and most of that the drain and refill of the oil. So i cant imagine it will be more then $1500 at most.ProfessionalNoticer Thanks this. -
DOOOO EEEEEET, sooooo much nicer, and the built in releif valve is nice, no exploding the top of the york all over the engine compartment once a year, clutch may still go, but price for the whole unit is better and easier to swap out the whole unit. Plus much quieter.ProfessionalNoticer Thanks this. -
No clue HOW it made it but i got to the pete, turns out my compressor is sold out nation wide and even in CA they were sold out. Rush truck centers has a house brand thats compatable with it though. So here i sit till wensday.
ProfessionalNoticer, BigBob410 and Dale thompson Thank this.
