I do have some driving experience so I would not exactly consider myself "new meat in the seat". Unfortunately it is not as good as driving on multiple continents as some people on here have done.
But I did just save a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!![]()

Let me start by saying that this thread is not just civil (mostly) and informative, but well written. It's not easy getting insights from your brain to paper. But my reason for posting was to say I hope to be a 51 year old rookie come the end of Jauary '11 and rest assured I understand what being new to a trade will mean for me. I've gotta say Dionysus, I hope our paths will cross one day. It's reassuring to know that when they say "professional" driver, it's not just an urban myth.

Thanks Dionysus...It is an excellent post. I think what you said goes for any profession. I work at a credit union and I have worked with both types of people. I personally perform my job with care and passion because it has got to be for more than a paycheck! There are plenty of people needing jobs and I think your attitude is one of the most important assets you have.
Dionysus Thanks this. -
This thread has had some fine contributions and has stayed civilized. I hope that coninues, as it was intended from the first to be educational, rather than insulting or patronizing. Reading through it again leaves me feeling that it struck a decent balance.
Good luck in whatever direction your path leads.
