I recently fueled at one of the major truck stops in Kentucky, it doesn't matter which one because this could happen anywhere at any truck stop with card readers. As usual I used the card reader, no problem, went in to sign the receipt and off I went. It wasn't until I checked my statement via Fleetone that I noticed a serious discrepancy. It showed I had fueled on that day at the same truck stop within 3 mins of each alleged transaction, with 2 separate totally different amounts. In other words according to my statement I had fueled twice and got billed 2 different amounts. I was dumbfounded. Absolutely no way had I fueled twice. Thus I was livid, and made a complaint to Fleetone. They set the process in place to get my money back from one of the transactions, the one that's bogus.
One week later I just happened to be running past the very same truck stop. So I went in and voiced my concerns, I mean come on now, this is nuts!!! The lady manager was very nice but not surprised. "Oh" she said, "This happens more often than you would ever imagine" OMG, you've got to be kidding me! Don't ask me how on earth I ended up in this fix. The receipt I picked up was the bogus one and the legit receipt I never received. So OK that's my fault for not checking the receipt shame on me.
So guys, this caper happens a lot so we have to do our due diligence here. I'm at fault for not checking more carefully but you could have knocked me down with a feather when I found out. How can this be and happen at all ??
the fact that these over charges happen quite often is ridiculous. Its not a human error but a computer glitch, and its not in our favor. Thus it's not always going to be picked up. We put faith in this so called fool proof technology and what do we get? In many cases we are being ripped off especially O/O who use fuel cards and services like Fleetone. This is not Fleetones fault.
BTW this is ongoing as the truckstop is researching this event to see how it happened so I can get my money back. . The fact that one of the receipts, the one that's bogus was for 53.5 gals. I didn't even reach that amount. I fueled approx 39.4 gals as it was just a top up. I did this as I was going north into Michigan where the fuel is more expensive.
Has anyone out there experienced a similar situation with fueling. I'd be interested to know.
Hopefully, one of these days I will have someone explain to me how this can happen, very bizarre.
no doubt from now on I'm gonna check and double check even if it means going online to see what was posted. I shall never trust card readers again. Fuel prices are high enough And my fuel bills are up there every week without this going on too. Caveat emptor! Stay diligent my friends. Good luck![]()
A Clear Warning When fueling, don't let this happen to You!!!

that kind of scenario has been going on for years. it's not a secret. and it's not limited to fleetone and fuel purchases.
it happens at any store on any card at any given time. -
So you don't think it's fleet ones fault huh.Do you know that for sure. It's always the computers fault.Just like those stupid elogs always the drivers fault if they're not accurate. What about the persons running the computer? If this is happening alot why has'nt fleet one done anything to resolve this issue.Could it be like eeryone else they're out to make extra money even if it means ripping the people off. With todays ecomony I don't trust anyone.

Okay, this is just crazy! And I really appreciate you sharing your experience ,that's really going help other drivers for sure. I'm still a lil confused on "how" you realized it though. If you received only one receipt, did it show both fill ups?!

Lets just say I know it's not Fleetones fault, on this occasion. I know it's easy to point fingers but my number one concern was to get this fixed and number 2 to warn others. I caught it by just logging on to my fleetone account and could tell immediately something was not right. I just hope that the truckstop chain involved will seriously look at this because I am sure that although I caught it pretty quickly, how many out there don't know it's going on and miss it.
for instance how many times have you seen the cashier swipe your card twice to get the transaction approved? How do we know it doesn't end up as a double charge?
I was at the Petro in Horizon City once a while back and fueled via the card reader. But when I went in the cashier wanted to re do the whole thing and wanted my card again. I refused until I called Fleetone to monitor the cashier redoing the transaction. On that occasion everything was fine, but all I want to do now is to make sure others do their due diligence and check everything, because its happening quite often quoting the manager I spoke with.
the two charges were different and even the mileage s were different on each so it makes it even more bizarre.
After all, we are here to help each other, and I'm just glad I can share this with you all.
good luck, and I'm sure I will get my money back ASAP, but stay tunedCharli Girl Thanks this. -
To answer a question about Fleetone and computers, I think we all get lax and assume that computers will do a perfect job all the time but how will fleetone know if it looks like its 2 genuine transactions. It's also our responsibilities to check our statements. To a certain extent a computer processing charge is a hidden charge, it's done within the computer system so it's not going to get caught till it appears somewhere on the other end. I had no idea at the time that this was going on. But as a result my trust has gone into distrust mode forever!!
2 receipts with different gallon amounts on it and different mileages.......yes this is Crazy!!! But it happened to me and I'm still shocked.
also on that day I knew I couldn't have put that amount of fuel in anyway as my tanks wouldn't have taken it. I analysed every transaction i did previously. Fleetone have been very helpful and have also reiterated that this can happen from time to time but again, it's really up to us in the final analysis to catch it.
Good luck to you all. I'm just glad I got this off my chestCharli Girl Thanks this. -
Same scenario happened to me twice at the TA in Shreveport. With an EFS card not Fleetone. There is something wrong with the truckstop computers when you get reefer fuel it will run the transaction twice unless the clerk fixes it. As stated, always check.

At some of the smaller truck stops the cashier has to type in the gal by hand. Once one of our guys was billed for 1200 gallons instead of 120. Took about two weeks to straighten out. Luckily we are there a lot and they worked with us. Just always look at your ticket before signing!
