a company thats easy to get into?

    Yes to all of these replies,Just starting out,you gotta pay your dues,which means low pay,bad runs,etc. Just like any other occupation,you dont just hire on as a newbie and have the world by the tail. I am retired now,but looking back over my working life thats the way it has always been.My first job was with a local Chrysler dealer,job amounted to being a gofer to every crap job that no one else would do. Then on to a green house where it was the same thing,nothing but crap jobs til I had been there for a while.Next one was a three year stint in Uncle Sams Army,and all of you should know what that entails. Then on to 35 years in a titanium plant,which after a year or so was a pretty good job,must have been cause I stayed there that long. Then guess what,plant closing,and off to driving truck,more of the same 23 cts. a mile and darn lucky to get 2500 miles a week.But I stuck it out and bought my own truck,paid it off and bought a new one in 1994. My point is you gotta start at the bottom and work your way up,after all it is a job.We are talking jobs here,not vacations as some of the newbies seem to think they are getting into. I can now sign on with just about any company and get respectable miles and pretty good pay,but at 70 almost 71 I dont have the urge to go back on the road.

    Believe me, if you're in a pinch - Swift will take you, I promise. But from what I've heard, they may take you initially and then #### can you during school ... leaving you uneducated and having to pay back a loan for x days of their schooling.

    Anyone else know if this has happened?

    If he already has the license, then he doesn't need the school. He'll just be sent out with a trainer, hopefully a decent one. After 6 months of solo, he should be able to move on if he doesn't like where he starts. My hubby got three months in with Werner on a dedicated route, moved to Celadon, and gets good miles, decent pay, and treated pretty decent too. I know some people have had a bad time with Celadon, but he hasn't. Each person is different, so a company that fits for one person may not fit for another.

    I don't know anyone that has gone to one of Swift's schools, so can't answer that question.

    Also, remember that recruiters for the trucking industry are like recruiters for the military, they promise you the sun, moon, and stars. Tell the recruiter that you don't want the sunshine song-and-dance, you want them to talk straight with you. My hubby did that when he was looking for a new company, and the recruiters that he talked to actually didn't give him the sunshine routine.

    Try Willis Shaw, lousy terminals but if you want to run they'll run you starts at .30cpm school is in Boise and all trucks are automatics

    SWIFT is good for a training company, and yes you will get raises on a regular basis. Be patient and you can do it. Just bare in mind that it is a training company so they have an agenda. And you have to watch your idle really close, so you will be spending a lot of time with your truck turned off.

    I'm not going to lie about that day, I was having a really bad day and I brought it all on myself.

    Though I have to admit that I felt i had entered the twilight zone with Swift... If you call the Phoenix terminal on the weekend you will be on hold for an hour at the least before a DM answers.

    Nights, and weekends seem to be quite challenging at times... depends who you get to deal with.

    Needless to say it all worked out and I apologize.
