You may still be ok. I couldn't back up worth a crap right out of school. Had a couple of trainers shaking their heads wondering if I could do it. Just don't hit anything.

In school we always practiced straight backing by pulling forward until trailer came around straight, then backing up. Today realized I never was really taught getting straight in tight spaces.

Update: TM decided to go with another candidate at this time. I'm frustrated and demoralized but at the same time I don't ever want to get in over my head. I want to be confident I can be as safe and competent as any other rookie and that road test the other day didn't inspire those feelings. Now I have to decide whether to apply elsewhere, take some sort of refresher course or both. SC TM left the door open for me to apply again in the future.

Be confident, project yourself, if it looks bad ask to have another go.

SNBC has a good training program for new CDL grads if your really determined to pull tanks... they would be good place to get some experience. It looks like your school let you down.
Good of luck driver...! -
Thank you, guys. Oaker, Schneider is next on my list, I think. I'm not sure I would say my school let me down. I graduated in September and have gotten rusty.
As far as being determined to haul tanks, I just have been under the impression they offer the best pay without the physical demands of LTL or flatbed. I suppose I could try auto carriers..
