Well, I guess I'm lucky because I only have two stops I have to make, but it's a 400 mile round trip through 3 states and all kinds of small towns. Plus I get the pleasure of dealing with 80/94 in Chicago twice a day.

Ever been to a union shop? There is no 'how about if we do it this way' stuff. They do what they want, when they want, and they don't give a crap about your HOS...

The "redelivery charge" doesn't hurt either. While the individual workers really could care less, there is usually a management type around that doesn't want his company to take the unnecessary hit of any more freight charges.

I was thinking of this thread at one of my stops today. I had to take 3 pallets of cinder block to a large steel fastener factory. I pulled in and went in the front office. Pull around to the back building and someone will be back there to unload you was the instruction. Pull around to the back building and walk in to find one worker inside running a press machine. That worker tells me to go to the middle building. So I walk to the middle building and find someone. We'll send someone back to unload you is what I get told.

So I walk back and get the straps off and rewound but no one has shown up yet. So I drop my Moffett, pull the pallets off myself and line them up on the ground. About the time I'm done loading the Moffett back on the truck, a guy shows up with his forklift. I have him sign my paperwork and I'm out of there 30 seconds later.

Carrying a 6k lb forklift on the back of the trailer can be a pain when you're running empty on wet or slippery roads. But then you have days like today when you're reminded that 'waiting to get unloaded' is a phrase you'll never have to say and it makes you smile a smug little smile just thinking about it. :smt077

When we haul pipe, we have a unloader on the back to roll the pipe off, so no waiting, but if we have concrete boxes on we need a hoe or fork to get them off. If they want to screw around making you wait, I usually say, after the first hour it will cost you a dollar a minute. Funny how that seems to light a fire under their butts. They even get to sign my "wait time" book if they go over. Corse the driver only gets $15. per hour of the 60, but beats nothin.

No doubt.. I'll know what I'm doing the day I turn it in right..haha..

Here's my quandary - the run I currently do and love is gonna be ruined because it's gonna be the shop that does our PM's in 2011.. I'm not running without an assigned unit so unless I move up about 4, which is more than possible, I'm taking a year off.. My next line-haul choice is kinda short and hell in the winter but I like going there..

Then again, if I'm gonna take a 20K pay cut and still run nights, why not just take a 35K cut for a 6 or 7 AM start time..

This is really hard when you can do anything you want at a huge terminal but there are only a few things you really wouldn't mind right..

Say it out loud.. I'm gonna take a 30-40K pay cut for 2011... Keep you posted but I'm glad we can flip year to year if we so choose..

Why is it every thread on this board goes for about three pages then someone takes it off topic for at least 15 more pages?

I had to say that to myself this summer,....lol...

And I'm glad I flipped back to days,...I like what I do and I'm good at it,....

Though it has to be nice having one line with a yearly rebid,....
