This is part of what I do at my local job. We also run double roll off trailers and regular stainless steel tankers. After 20+ years in the industry I have finally found a niche that doesn't make me want to slit my own throat from boredom ;)
We do a fair amount of physical labor here but that keeps us young, right? ;)
I'm home everyday, I don't generally work weekends unless I volunteer or I'm on call, once every five weeks. We serve pipelines, refineries, and general industrial customers.

That's the type of trucking I try to steer new cdl holders into. You are treated so much better at jobs where trucking isn't the main money maker. Got a buddy a job at a place that builds athletic tracks and he hauls the equipment and whatnot, loves it.

The only problem with trying to steer newbies towards this kind of job is that many employers (mine included) will not even look at someone with little experience unless they've trained them from within.

Those green frac tanks back like crap and we're expected to get them into spots it would be tough to get a pup trailer into. We have to blindside them more often than not. I dropped one a couple weeks ago that literally forced me to move back and forth a foot at a time, literally against a steel post and the tank to get away from it. And then there are the ridiculously tight spots in refineries, definitely not stuff for the faint of heart or a newbie ;)
And then there's the part about those big green tanks wanting to slide off the side of the tractor as we try to winch them up... There is a very large learning curve with this job that has overwhelmed many experienced drivers which is why they won't consider folks with little experience.

Some days I spend more time driving than anything else. Some days I only drive 30-40 miles and spend most of the day working setting up containment systems or loading and securing a flatbed load of equipment. The variety is what attracted me to this job.
