most of these contractors are very busy. They have to deal with the LH dispatchers, doing payroll, coordinating what truck which driver takes, mechanical repairs, babysitting team driver drama, taxes, getting supplies like wipers, oil, coolant, washer fluid, pm's on trucks and theres so much other stuff and I could go on and on.
So have a little patience. I been with FXG forca year and a half now. It has its ups and downs, but I run a solo dedicated route, 5 days a week, 2 days off and home every night.
My advice, stay away from team. get a solo route.
You really dont need any "training" per se on how to seive doubles. its common sense. Drive according to the conditions.
Pay attention, dont EVER swerve for anything, keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up.
Biggest thing you need to worry about is proper assembly. pintle hook latched and secured, safety chains hooked from dolly to rear trailer, dolly handle all the way in/in correct position and dolly 5th wheel jaws locked around rear trailer kingpin. failure to do any of those things will result in an incident. get 2 incidents in a 12 month period and you are disqualified for 3 years from FedEx Ground. Also when pulling a dolly in the yard, make sure BOTH safety chains from the dolly are hooked to the rear of the tractor on the chain loops. Failure to do so and getting caught is an incident. 2 incidents and adios.
if you need anything else. feel free to ask or send me a pm.
been running I-25 and I-80 and I-70 for the past 18 months with FedEx and a year with Werner before that.
I have all my endorsements, chain experience, winter mountain experience and what not. I have 53', doubles and flatbed experience.

It all depends on your contractor. Mine is a great guy, best part he leaves me a lone. Doesn't micromanage.
I run fedex ground line haul local. I'm being paid .60 a mile all miles. I'm averaging 400 miles a night. Which hopefully will go up, ive been working with my regions hub on getting a earlier start time. If that happens the route I will do would get me 560 a night.
If fedex shuts us down due to snow. My contractor paid us 400 miles. Fedex screws me out of my normal non dedictated run and I help them out getting only 280 miles (happens a couple times when you say yes to the line haul manager all the time... but always say yes, if you are reliable they will help you out, like getting me 560 miles a night) I still got 400.
My contractor pays like 6 major holidays, 400 miles.
Vacation 1 week after year 2 weeks 2 years 3 weeks 3 years.
If I ever need anything for the truck I text my boss in the morning. By the time I come in the mechanics are either done or the stuff I need is sitting on the truck.
With fedex ground, they take safety very seriously. Just a couple months ago during peak a driver high hooked his tail on the dolly. Started to come apart before he reached the guard gate, when he got to the gate and stopped his tail and dolly were thrown through the door of his lead. They had to unpack the lead at the gate. It took them 2 hours to get the trailers un-fubared. Gate was down to 1 lane during peak. The driver was instantly fired by fedex, told to bobtail home and don't bother coming back. I saw this happen. Always always always check your set before you move it. Always.
If you have any questions about the work feel free to ask. In just a driver, not a contractor though. But would like to be.LoneCowboy Thanks this. -
Contractors can be a hit and miss.
I get health insurance reimbursement, 401k w/ a match, paid holidays, paid time off, newer equipment.
I'm on a M-F solo run, home every day. 570 miles a day and the option for a 6th day if I ever want it, the freight is always there. I can choose to run Saturday or Sunday. It is never forced that I run either day.
I really like working for this contractor. Really nice guy. Gives us cards on holidays, cash bonuses, nice company shirts, etc...he takes care of his drivers.
Then again there are contractors who don't do any of that BUT once you're approved through Fedex you can always switch contractors and get on with one of the good ones.Blue4ever Thanks this. -
Fedex dispatch is one does all the app. The road test is really no big deal. I never pulled doubles prior to doing the road test and a driver who worked for the contractor gave me the test. Quick run down street and showed me how to drop the set. Rest you
Figure out on your own.
First contractor promised me the moon. He was a start up dude no dedicated runs. I split 60cpm but we never got out running extra board. He did give me a 1100 each guarantee.
After 3 months I made a phone call. A guy was looking for established team and me and my brother were looking for better. He put us on in a brand new 780 Volvo splitting .57 running dedicated Nashville to cali and back. Out 4 days home 3...paid holidays... paid vacation and time off if you ever need it and a raise every year. I'm pretty happy and 3 days off a week is nice.
My advice if your not local then stay away from open board and find guy who has bidsJustWannaBeComfortable, LoneCowboy and Blue4ever Thank this.
