Hi folks. Hope this thread is in the right place... I have a few questions about Sprinter vans for those who drive them:

    1) Where do you take them for service? Being made by Daimler, can they be serviced just about anywhere for routine maintenance like oil, tires, etc (instant lube places, Tires Plus, etc)? What about something major?

    2) Mechanically, how dependable are they?

    3) I've read that the knock on them is that they are somewhat underpowered. Have you found that to be an issue?

    4) Any difference between Freightliner and Mercedes (besides the name, of course)?

    Thanks in advance!

All are built by Mercedes, and there are several options for service. Dealers, Speedco are a few. I have a friend with one and says RV dealers are the most affordable place. From what I hear they are high maintence, nothing cheap on one. I personally beleive you can operate a st8 truck for same or less cost with the ability to make more money.

I felt the same way about vans also but after talking to few van o/o's there good money in it,yea not as much of a s/t or t/t but there money to be made. There a company paying a $1.00 per mile for vans which isn't bad, vans are good to run as a o/o but to contract a team or solo driver, not so much.I think there lot more vans/sprinters popping up more lately in the last couple of years I actually think within couple of years there going to be lot more freight for vans/sprinters,shippers are starting to see them more now so I think another couple years there going to be more vans fleet owners out there.

That's the same I've heard too. Three of the guys at the courier company I was working for drive Sprinters and always talked about how high maintenance and expensive to repair they were. One of them talked about dropping back down to a van. The person who moved the most freight did it out of a cargo van anyway.

There's a TON of them around here - Daimler opened up a place and the Sprinters have been taking over the fairgrounds parking fields. Hundreds of them sitting around waiting. FedEx ended up buying a bunch of them not too long ago.
