Ok, so I have decided that I want to start driving truck for a living... I have done lots of research and been reading these forums for a little bit now. But I still have a few questions that i have not seen answers to...

1- My class c license was suspended in 2009 for child support. It was reissued to me but suspended again for a month due to a dmv/court screwup... Will this keep me from getting employed? I have no accidents and the only moving violation is for driving when my license was suspended

2- How do companies drug test? Urine, hair strand, blood sample??? I was a medical marijuana "patient" (let that go to get a new career) and I know that THC stays in your body for a very long time..........

3- When fresh out of school and first trip on the road, what kind of expenses can I expect? food, hotels,, showers, etc......??? I will of course be low on funds so I would like to be able to know whats ahead so to speak...

Why were a 'patient' of the weed, and has how long ago have you stopped. You should be 90 days clean to pass a hair test. If less than 90, I would wait.

nay suspension you have a problem but because it is child support depending on your state they can deny you a cdl basically a profeesional license

The suspension is lifted. The child support dept is no longer charging me... so there will not be another hold placed...

i was a "patient" cuz I dont like taking all the dam meds that doctors give.
And a hair strand test is actually more like six months or more........
so is that how truck companies test?

I would go to whatever company's website you would be interested in driving for and look at their requirements regarding suspending licenses, or call them if it is not listed.

    thanks man much better:biggrin_25514:
ok...the moving violation while having a suspended license is gonna hurt a bit.......like was posted before at least wait the 90 days if it hasn't been that already since giving up the medical ganja. The drug test is usually is whiz quiz.

Ah the ever present expenses on the road and being broke.....every new guys trial by fire.
    1. go to the truck stop websites and apply for the loyalty cards......that way when you fuel you use them to earn showers and points you can use in the truck stop to buy stuff. They mail them to your home address now.

    2. you should really never be on the road with less than $100.00 bucks on ya.......yes it's hard at first to have scratch with you at all times...but it is really nice to have some mean green in the wallet. If you are careful you can make $100 go along way in a week. Watch what you buy and what you eat, sit down meals get pricey but are nice to have ....but pace yourself on them.
    3. hotels...not so much anything you'll be seeing unless when you are on the road with your trainer, the company puts you up in one.

    Good luck to ya

If you were taking medically prescribed marijuana then you don't have to worry about it showing up in your drug test. You should be able to get a letter from your doctor stating that it was prescribed and that you are no longer taking it. This is true with any medications. As for the license suspension I don't think that will be a problem. I would personally pay and have a drug test done if you are concerned and if need be get a doctors note. You should also start calling around to different companies that you are interested in and talk to the recruiters. This is going to be the best way to get the true answers to your questions. Good luck man!
