All these schools teach you is the basics. Don't worry too much about the quality of teaching. You are going to learn more the first day with your trainer over the road then you did the whole time in school. All the school does is get you prepared for training. They are just showing you the basics such as shifting, backing etc... In fact once you are with your trainer you will probably learn a whole new way of shifting that they don't teach anywhere. As far as the out of state license, a lot of companies do that. As soon as you get on the road and they send you home for the first time you will go and get your license re-issued in your home state. You do not have to retake the test. It's great you are taking the time to do some research about this but it is definitely not something to stress over. Find yourself a decent smaller company (not a mega-carrier) that you think might meet your needs and then go for it. Good luck to you and welcome to the forum!

Hi everyone. Thanks for taking the time to give some advice. Its appreciated. yes I would have to retake the driving and written tests if i got the license from a different state other then Illinios. Illinios is the only state they make you do this even for a reguler class d license. goes back a few years with the big scandel of selling cdl licenses here at the S.O.S

I'm located in Illinois and will vouch for Carbo. I was trying to go to Roehl's trucking school. They said that if I lived anywhere but Illinois, they could work with me. But since I live here, I have to get my CDL in IL. I am looking at doing my training through Driver Solutions with USA Truck paying my tuition. Is there anything anybody can tell me about either of those companies or Midwest Technical Institute's driving school? Thanks for any information!
