Well, your accidents are coming up on 20 years, I doubt that is any deterrent, but that long out of the loop, and no CDL, I'm afraid you'll have to start at square 1. The consolation there is, it should be a breeze for you. Let me just be the wet blanket here and say, if you didn't pursue it 20 years ago, you are in for a rude surprise. In those 20 years, the trucking industry has changed, BIG TIME, and the things you didn't like then, are only exemplified now, TIMES 10! I think, you will spend a lot of money to find out it's not what you want. Restaurant biz is equally challenging, but a breath of fresh air compared to regulations and demands in the trucking industry today. TONS of other jobs out there. Healthcare is huge, you can make $39gs sweeping hospital floors,, heck, I believe a Walmart manager makes as much as a truck driver. Trucking today, I feel, is for folks that are trucking and have been a while. A subtle fact I include on every one of these posts, 75% of new drivers quit in the 1st year, so the odds are against you. At 39, I think there are much more rewarding jobs to have, service and maintenance are huge today, and the pets will be waiting for you when you get home at 4:30!
