Okay, I would keep one installed and use the GMRS radio as an alternate radio to the CB setup. I'm not suggesting anyone rip out all of their CB gear at this time..

Highly doubt anyone would based on your suggestion, especially if they put the work and $ into their set up..

Check out the YouTube video that has a GMRS / CB comparison
Timin770 Thanks this. -
A 2.5 mi cb and 10 with gmrs..lol..ok be happy with your fmrs comparision lop sided vid..My radio does a lil more than 10 mi on a low power of a few watts..
Antenna choice and placement will make a huge diff..so to me that vid was lop sided and geared to enhance gmrs..
Once again,my gut speaks to me sayin someone here is just playin us cb lovers.. -
My opinion about RANGE!!!
When it comes to usable range on a CB or GMRS radio, I would say they are about the same. WHAT!!! The same, Yes.. Mobile to mobile (over average terrain) you will get about 3 to 5 miles out of both radios, however the GMRS radio is FM and has a better Signal to Noise ratio.. There's NO Skip on the GMRS Band, so your range will be consistent, with CB your range can vary greatly.
Advanced GMRS users will enjoy access to repeaters. Repeaters can extend a mobiles usable range from 20 to 75 miles depending on the location of the repeater. CB Radio does not offer repeater capability..
Just my 2 cents about range...

I do more than 10 on my lil radio barefoot and did it with me moving and other party sittin still in the hills of pa..No repeaters req..
That was also on a set up not as good (antenna wise)as i have now...
A fellow trucker with same radio done by same tech managed 75 miles..Again with no repeaters and barefoot..Vids of what i fid and that other fella are on youtube as well...
Anyways....Enough of this gmrs sales push for me.. -
wink wink...

Well, you can just use an SSB CB. 12W pep. But, since there’s no carrier in SSB, most of the power goes to “getting out”.

I dont think there can be debate; GMRS is clearly the superior technology. The tricky part is converting thousands of CB users. I will almost certainly buy GMRS in the near future. I'm still making good money hauling groceries but I'm a bit scared to spend anything with this bug going around
