Admitting you were a #### up is the first step to recovery. What is it with all the thin skinned drivers that refuse to take ownership of problems? Always somebody else's fault.

What do you pull for ave. 2.45 per mile? I am struggling to maintain 2$/mile with flatbed. However, I find my loads on the load boards.

dont get into any type of never never plan meaning lease....To easy to get screwed over..
The person who leases the truck to you has to much power asto what, where andwhen you go..To much controld asto what youcando to the truck....To much power asto how and where you spend your maintaince $$..
Also you can make every payment on that truck and be walkin into the office to get ownership papers when they can suddenly close up shop and keep your truck and send you packing....

Save yourself time and headache and go to letstruck.com and buy his $250 start up package...Everthing you need to know is in there and till you have all your #### straight, stay a company driver till then..

You dont learn to fly a kite then expect to jump in a fighter jet and become an ace in a day..Get miles and experience under your belt before worrying about your own truck..

I'm flatbed working from load boards as well. Like I said, I'm picky and if I'm home, I'll sit for a day or two instead of taking cheap loads just to keep moving. I'm averaging a little under 7k miles a month. I know guys doing double that and they're well under $2/mile. I probably would be as well if I was trying to keep the truck moving all the time. Some months I only did 3-4k and others I did a around 10k or so, but the average is 7.

Part of the is also oversize. I have a broker that consistently has good oversize loads that pay decent. Usually 200-300 miles and that pays $1200-2000 a trip with pilots included. I try to jump on them all the time. A few months back I got lucky and was able to do 6 of them in 1 week for a project they were doing.

How often do you have extra space available? I always tell the shipper to load to the very front if the weight permits so I often have 4-12 feet extra left over on the rear and I'll find a partial to fill the space. I've probably made a good 10-15k this year just from adding on partials to what were supposed to be full loads. If you don't use Truckstop's corridor feature, learn how to. It's a money maker when you're looking for partials along the way.

I am assuming because of many reasons.

the first is they see money.

the second is it is easy to do.

Third it doesn't matter what they know, they see money.

You know Craig, I have been buying equipment and selling it for over a year now, many times I get a truck from a distressed owner who wants to get out from under the debt. Sometimes it is an auction but overall it is one reason why I keep offering advice and keep telling people not to do it unless they know what they are getting into. The success rate is low, very low, so I also don't get it.
