I was in San Diego arrea parked at the pilot in Otay Mesa next to a Trans Systems truck, They're out of Cheney/Spokane WA, The driver showed up, we had a chat. he said he made $2500 a week as a company driver, he also ran Into Canada. He pulled flatbed. I didn't see a pay stub.
What i see for local tanker positions is $18.00 to $26.00 per hr. 26 is rare but there. -
I used to work for JJW --That's the tanker division of Systems Transport. You run hazmat chemicals to factories up and down the I-5 corridor and occasionally into eastern WA, Montana, and Canada---things like spent acid, caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), sodium hypochlorite(bleach), spent oil, and ammonia in various concentrations. You wear full hazmat gear including a respirator at times. It requires precision and attention to detail and gets really uncomfortable when it's 95 degrees out and you're wearing a rubber suit.
As far as Systems Transport goes... their flatbed division is, I think, a better bet. Avoid TWT their refer division---those guys just get ripped off on pay. Whichever of their 3 divisions you end up in you will need to do a 3 day paid orientation in the Spokane area which is really boring.
Finally, don't sign on to their lease purchase deal until after you've gotten about 5 years experience and read all the posts about lease/purchase on this forum. Good luck !!Last edited: Feb 3, 2017
