Ok I need a question answered. I have been a driver for a little over 25 years with several companies. In November I sufferd What has been explained to me as a Stroke in the optic nerve in my left eye. The technical term for it would be (Ischemic Optic Neuropathy). This has left me with very little sight in my left eye. Now for my question.

Does anyone know of anyone who has the loss of an eye, or loss of the vision in one and are still Driving Truck? And if so how do they pass the vision part of a DOT Physical? I'm at witts end here. I'm trying to go back to work but I'm not sure I can pass a Physical.

    Thanks for everyones Time!!

When I was in CDL school one student had vision loss in one eye and so did the lead instructor, so this was discussed. I remember our instructor saying that it was not a problem but that you had to get a waiver to be cleared to drive. So I think you should be OK with a waiver, but I don't know what the process for obtaining one is.

I would say check with your governing department of transport for health criteria. Then go see an optometrist for corrective measures and treatment. You might also seek a nutritionist for natural solutions as well.:biggrin_25525:
