a little advice about where to live

It's so nice to see helpful advice here. For the OP, just like everyone else had said, you're young, you've got a good career that will take you to a lot of different areas. Find out which area you like and stay there a couple times on your "home time". If you like it, stay a few more and find you a "permanent" place. Think outside the box, campgrounds, rooms, etc. If you don't like it, move on to the next area. No one should be treated poorly. As for your stepdad having the only key for your stuff, that needs to change and now! It's your stuff, not his, unless he's footing the bill for the storage.

I'm concerned that you say you have no money. If you are getting decent miles, and have few bills, you should have some savings. What are you doing with your money? Get a fridge & microwave, buy groceries. Cook and eat in your truck. You'll save a ton of money, plus you'll be eating healthier (hopefully). Good luck to you, driver.

Look for a rural area with a low cost of living. A single wide in 31513 can run as low as $200 a month, with ample parking space.

 

I second the suggestion of a rural place with a low cost of living. There are some cheap places to BUY out there where the mortgage would be less than the cost of rent anywhere else. Get a cheap spot in the boonies, buy a shipping container to use for storage and at the end of it all you'll have something you own and can sell rather than just a bunch of receipts for apartments you didn't live in. I'd recommend someone in the south so you don't have to worry about pipes freezing when you're not around. Take the things about OTR trucking that make life difficult and turn them into advantages. A house that no one else would want might be perfect for you.

 

Not to sound mean or anything, just no way else I can think to ask this got any buddies you can use their address, or cousin etc??? Find a college town somewhere always renting rooms to college kids you might be able to find one.

 

Take your hometime anywhere you want; no need to 'live' anywhere when you're single and OTR. Book a load to Miami, then get a cheap hotel and car rental for your time off. That's what I used to do, and it worked out quite well. For your official address, rent a PO box at one of the UPS stores in a state that has no personal income tax.

 

Like Chinatown said, pick a state with no state inc tax.

Then find a stable family who is struggling with house expenses. Offer to pay their water bill if they put it in your name, and scan your mail for you. You don't need to ever sleep there, but you now have a residence in a no tax state.

It is comfortable enough to live in and also small enough to drive around town for errands.

 

I had one almost exactly like that at one time. It was ragged out but sure was nice just to climb in the back and take a nap. Had it at the terminal for a while, but the trucking company owner "hinted" to move it. Served its purpose for a while.

 

The weather will be turning nice soon in Winter Haven. Gets nasty again in May. Could park at your yard there. Buy a beater and leave it at the terminal. Relatively low cost of living here inland.
