I am planning to take a course at my local community college and pay for it myself. You know after four decades I probably couldn't back my ### into a double spot at a truck stop. So I definetely need plenty of work and miles before I buy my own rig.

I am married and my wife is looking forward to going on the raod with me a few of the spring and summer months each year. I plan to stay west of the Mississippi and be mostly regional. I've driven enough in the NY Tri-State area to know that I definitely don't want to be doing that gig.

Thanks so much for the input.

I hope that all goes good for you. My wife knows the deal and won't even get in the truck to help me clean it.

I went to an independent school

I got a gig with a company that doesn't advertise (much)

I landed a job typically reserved for experienced drivers

I, not the school, was MY placement department

    I'm not complaining

If YOU work for it you can get a decent gig with a company that treats you pretty well. I know this to be true.

    Jimmy P Thanks this.

You must be reading my mind. I plan on attending a local community college to obtain my CDL. After 4 decades I probably couldn't back my ### into a double spot at a truck stop. So, I definetely need to be retrained and get some miles behind me before buying my own truck.

It will all come back to you in no time at all. Like riding a bike, right? There are plenty of good companies out there. You probably know enough to stay away from the mega-carriers. A good mom and pop company or even an owner operator that needs a driver. Good luck to you!
