A mid roof with turbo wing more aerodynamic than a full sized truck?

I would like my next truck to be a mid roof with a turbo wing on the top but wondered if it would be less fuel efficient than a full sized truck? I feel I need a turbo wing since only once back when I was a company driver I was told to use a mid roof truck to grab a dry van trailer and man the wind blew that trailer all over the place I had to fight to keep the trailer straight on the road. It may have been a coincidence that it was a very windy day but I wonder if the turbo wing is necessary to keep the trailer within the lines. I do not need a full sized truck and want the smaller size to be more efficient than a full size truck unless the wind drag will cause it to be less efficient. I hope to get a real answer without going off topic.

High-roof trucks should be more fuel efficient if you’re pulling a 13’6” trailer. It covers the front of the trailer fully, unlike the turbo wing. Mid-roof trucks make more sense for flatbed trailers or any other low-height trailer.

High-roof trucks should also have a higher resale value and be easier to sell as most of the freight in the nation is dry and reefer. So, you will have more potential buyers. On top of that, high-roof trucks can be used with teams or owner operators interested in having their wife or a family member ride with them.

The turbo wing will not be more fuel efficient than a high top, or a mid roof with that ugly plastic aero #### that makes it look like a high top unfortunately.

But mid roofs look better and are more practical for anything that isn't a box.

Yes that is one of the reasons I want one. Plus I can go under 13' 4" bridges even with the turbo wing

My T680 is only 12'10". I think most high roofs are a little shorter than they used to be in order to allow for the height of externally mounted accessories.... with my dish and light bar up top, I'm only 13'5"

I have a mid roof. Currently pull hopper bottom. So it's perfect for that
The turbo wing makes things worse, especially in a cross wind.
One of my previous mid roof trucks had a factory roof fairing, much better option. As others said cooler in summer, plus keeps the noise down when sleeping in heavy rains.
Plus if you ever switch jobs and don't need it, they are easily removable.
I didn't put it back on for a few months when going back to dry van. After I did install it, my mpg went up 3/4 mpg.

    bzinger and TruckRunner Thank this.
