Sincerly, I am happy for you BW, but I just can't bear the stench of all the garbage any more.
You are right. life is too short! Too short to be so unhappy, trying to make a living at a job that just isn't fun anymore.
I learned recently that I cant change the world, all that I can change is how I react to it. Since I figured this fact out, I have begun the process of weeding out the things that anger, frustrate, or just give me more grief than pleasure. Trucking has become one of those things.
You never know, I may go back into a "real" 8-5 job and completely hate it!
If that does happen, I will gladly admit my mistake, and look you up.
Maybe, if I am lucky enough, you'll take me on as a driver for your company!
(Hell, you'd probably be the best boss I ever worked for!)
A misconception I had regarding "Seeing the Country"

I'd probably be the biggest hardass you ever worked for anyway....
But that option does not exist anymore because I sold all but 1 truck when I learned that the worst thing about having a bunch of trucks is having to hire drivers for them because...
Truck drivers are the worst thing that ever happened to the trucking industry, most of them are:
Whiners
Thieves
Liars
Slobs
Lazy
Irresponsible
And a long list of other faults...Leading me to the conclusion that it is smart to never own more trucks than you can drive yourself.scorekeeper, former yankee, Hanadarko and 1 other person Thank this. -
This seems to be an old argument amongst truckers, whether it's possible to sightsee or not. I say it is. You may have to get a little creative, you may have to spend a little money, you may have to give up precious TV time, but it can be done. If at least some of us are doing it, it can be done. We are proving it.

I certainly did my fair share of sightseeing!
The USS Texas, USS North Carolina, USS Cod, USS New Jersey, the REALLY AWESOME flight museum in Provo? Utah, the St Louis Arch. I know I am forgetting a few.
That being said, it was before we had all the enforcement of the rules and the technology we have noe. -

When I was driving the 48, one thing I did start doing was contacting friends that I have in different parts of the country. Had several occasions
where they would come and pick me up if I was near their hometown.
It was great to catch up on old times, share a good meal, hot shower and even sleepover. Had two different couples I know, in Florida & California, each take me to the different Disney Parks for the day.
I know trucking is not all that it's built up to be (in our my minds) when we first start. However, there are opportunities out there to enjoy while on the road. Takes pre-planning and in some cases spontaneity though.Last edited: Jul 30, 2011

Here is a thread of truck friendly places.
Would be great if there were more updates.
Gotta be all kinds of places, near and around truckstops, or places you can get truck and trailer into.
Just need to post em.

USS Alabama museum in Mobile AL.
I think they charged like 5 bucks to park a truck and trailer, and whatever the cost of the museum.
Well worth it.Last edited: Jul 31, 2011

I pick up travel guides at States Visitor Center/ Rest Areas.
Most have phone numbers to attractions.
I call ahead, and simply ask if I can get a truck and trailer in.
Alot of amusement parks will let you park in the Rv/Bus parking area.
Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, Dearborn Mi. Another I called ahead, lady gave me directions in, and parked in Bus area, was a middle of week day, probably couldn't have done it during a busy weekend. The Duck Thanks this.
