Hey guys....starting to lean towards the idea packing all and sundry up in Melbourne and heading over to the west to enjoy my slide into the "senior years".
Has any one done this before ?
Trying to weigh up these options:
1 - a 1 way rental with an 8 tonner and send the car by train, or whack it on a trailer and tow it over (if Orix or Hertz does this these days)
2- rent a PM and a 45' dropdeck tautliner, load everything into it (and the car too) and take it that way
3- screw using a removalist - their time costs you money, I'd sooner do the miles myself than pay someone to do it for me...
I know its a friggin long way and a one way rental aint gonna be cheap, as they have to get the gear back to home base
(possibly not with Orix as they run national fleet - I think they still do)
Already calculated about $1800 for diesel to cover the trip (3500Km).
Cheers
Dave
A move to Perth....ideas?

i found the cheapest way is to use a container, some companies drop off the container, then you pack it, they pick it up and take it to the destination, then once you unpack it they pick up the empty container. i would also check out price to rail the container

Thanks Dave....I had thought about that, there's issues here with dropping a box...#### overhead powerlines and the driveway isnt wide enough to probably get one in. I'd probably need a permit from the council to have a box dropped on the nature strip....thing would be more over the road than on the strip.I just got a 5 tonner in and it was a tight squeeze moving in here. I guess theres always that option of pack a pantech and go reload it into a box somewhere - I see Royal Wolf is one and theres them PODS things advertised a bit now too.
So many options - just making one that works !!!! Cheers Mate -

I am looking to do this but the other way , well to adelaide. The first question you posted is impossible that I have found, no hire company over here in perth does one way, so I am hireing a 8 ton van to Port linclon. I have 50 cubic metre of stuff plus a boat and small truck . I found a great deal with cleavland freightliners to get my boat and truck to adelaide.Ill have to drive the van to lincoln and back.
Not sure if training the stuff over. -
Yeah I had similar luck in finding one ways - the only one that I knew of that ran national fleet was Orix, most of the others the van has to go back to their yard (Hertz for one), and a one way is pretty expensive.
Did you try Orix - see if they can come to the party with a one way Perth > Adelaide.
Good luck with the move -
Ok never heard of them will try them today. cheers

I gave them a ring to day at the kewdal office here in perth no go. I need to return it to perth. cheers
