My first transition, from Company #1 to Company #2, I expect to happen soon. Gonna be Alot of Adjustments to make.
Dry Van to Reefer.
3,000 truck company to a 400 truck company.
No APU to new company has APU.
Parking Gawd knows where for hometime to now parking at terminal.
New policies and customers and many more things I'm sure.
The biggest Initial transition I expect to be the trucks themselves. Particularly since I'm coming from 112,500 miles in a KW T-600 13-speed to either a Freightliner, Volvo, or International likely 10-speed. All my muscle memory and timing I developed with the 13-speed will fly right out the window when I sit behind the wheel of a 10-speed. I did get about 1200 miles of 10-speed in trucking school but that was a year ago. RPM ranges will now have a greater variance. Completely different shifting locations. No more shifting half gears with a flip of the Thumb switch and a tap of the accelerator. Figuring out the correct gears for downshifting, climbing and descending mountains, ect.......
I am sure a couple months in it will all be engrained but until then I'm gonna feel like a Student Graduate all over again.
My Right Thumb is bound to get Lazy now![]()

Embrace the change. By the looks of things, this is going to be a very positive move for you. Good luck!
xlsdraw Thanks this. -
Driving different trucks....at any given time. Part of the "biz". You can do it !

You'll adjust to the new shift pattern much quicker than you expect because you'll be doing it a few hundred times per day.
Just don't make the inevitable shifting problems throw you off. Try to analyze why they are happening and then concentrate on making that change. In training, it's often the case that the better candidates are too hard on themselves and that overly self-critical attitude is the big obstacle. The bad candidates don't give a crap so nothing is a big deal to them.xlsdraw Thanks this. -
Well, I guess I was a bit premature with this thread. I got rejected from this perspective employer. Still good helpful info provided. Thanks. Gonna have to keep looking.
