No, I'd have to say not. There's a place for everyone.

Just had to say it lol. After vacation I may just be getting back into it locally home every night for a gold mine. I would also operate heavy equipment when needed. Full benefits and starts at $25 an hour.

My advice would be to go after job satisfaction and not money/miles. Also it is my opinion that it takes a year to get a good read on things assuming you did the homework and talked to drivers and not recruiters. Of course this theory does not apply to CRE, swift, Werner, etc.
For example every driver I met before I joined my present carrier was making money. I'm with Landstar now and love it.

Trucking led me to discovering heavy equiptment. It's getting the sand out and the rocks off. =) Seek and you shall find.

You young ones with dreams of pie in sky money and phat living forget it. You will learn how abuse run rampant in dispatch instead.

Finally something we agree on. Well, I'd say run as fast as you can from OTR trucking.

I've thoroughly enjoyed driving all these years, although admittedly I'm getting a little slower with age (although I'm not really that old yet; I'll be turning 50 this year. My laziness at home in regards to proper exercise and a poor diet are definitely contributing factors, however...my bad), and I'll continue driving until I either can't, or don't want to anymore. After that, I'll be looking for a nice cushy desk job where I work now. Granted, I've been blessed to be able to work local since the beginning...
