Day 4 of my 5 day week today ...and had to drag my feet to get 8 hours , same with weds .
    Tues was 11.5 hrs
Thursday was 13.5 hrs and gotta admit I was tired today so I was fine with 8 .
If ya live near omaha and don't mind erratic hours this is a pretty good gig .
Good insurance and benefits and equipment.
They are very laid back , just go do your job legally and follow the rules and never hear from them ...paid for every minute of your day .
Start early start late , they don't care .
If I haven't been sent a load b4 I get back to the yard I just go home and send them a message when I'll be back ..
Very wide freight base and everyone I've met here including shop personell , dispatch and yard hustelers have helpful and friendly.
Only cons are they seem a bit disorganized and communication lacks ...to many chiefs not enough Indians? Or the opposite? , I'm not sure yet but I have learned if no load tendered when I hit the omaha terminal I go home and it's see ya tmw morning.
I love the safety lane too as it pads my clock and terminal fuel is great so no more idiots at truckstops feeding they're pie hole at the fuel island .
The omaha terminal is busy and seems to rock late into the night between the shops and in and outbound trucks ...I like it here so far !

I still miss long haul otr but after working local regional by the hour you realize how paltry mileage pay is with the amount of free time. Never feeling the need to hurry is nice and calming then a month goes by and you notice your productivity barely changes.

Yeah I'm really enjoying not being a source of free labor now , I sat in a dock for 3 hours yesterday and will be paid for every minute of it without having to claim detention that I may or may not get , or wait a month to be paid for it , or donate the 1st 2 hours of my time .

Yup it gets easy when the dock guy says it might be a little while and you say where is the coffee and restroom?

Welcome to the club. I do something very similar except we have one customer, no safety lane, and no terminal fuel. Everything else you mentioned is virtually the same. I was OTR for 28 years and now local for almost 5 years. At first, it was an adjustment going from chasing miles to chasing hours but in the end, I enjoy local work. It may not be for everybody, but it suits me just fine.

Best of luck in your new gig.
