Thanks bud, Yes I'll definitely do that. I'm hoping for N. Central Texas.
I'm in the research phase right now; starting early ,so that when I do get my CDL I'll be ready.

    Thanks again,
    Jim

This is worth a repeat. Take a look around closer to home. There is a lot of work out there in a lot of places right now. The Wichita Falls area has some work also, Im told. As a newbie, I wouldn't limit myself to driving unless you just really want to be a driver. Check into well services job. There are many different jobs and some are definitely worth a look. Myself, I wouldn't want to my subject myself to the frac crew or drill rigs...that's for the younger guys..imo... but there are a lot of jobs that dont require that kind of intense labor.

OK, I don't want anyone to think that I am angry in any way, I am not.

I started this Thread to try and give some insights to any Newbie who is thinking of getting into the West Texas Oil Fields (WTOF) as a CDL Driver. I related to anyone interested the details of what I did and how I did it.

Now, that said, several people have contacted me with the question, "What Company Do You Work For?"

I have provided information, but please consider this............. "What worked for me worked for me, and it might not work for you."

My concern is that some of you might have the mindset that if you do what I did, you'll wind up where I did. Not likely.

The employment picture for Newbies is fluid and constantly changing - IMHO. So, go back and re-read some of the first posts that I wrote in this Thread and concentrate in using those strategies........... that's how you find a WTOF gig.

I do wish you all the best, and will help anyone in any way that I can............. just as others helped me.

    Singed,

    31N90W

Yeah, and the sooner you pull the trigger the better... don't wait for things to get tight like I did. :-(

not sure if this was covered, but? living in a "MAN CAMP", guess you'd be single? this might not be something a married man, such as myself could do, I doubt I could talk my wife into living like that, if my thoughts of what a man camp is

Actually, I wrote a whole post on this thread about life in the Man Camp. Look (read) at the 4th or 5th post.

Great stuff, thanks for these posts.

I've got 10+ yrs Class A driving, plus about a month now of oilfield experience hauling frac sand in W. Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle, but I'm thinking about heading out west where I can get an hourly wage plus live in a man-camp free of charge.

My biggest concerns are these: Do you have your own room in the camp or do you have to share, and if you do have your own room, can you hear other guys snoring in other rooms?

If I can have my own room, and I don't have to listen to snoring all night, I'll be a happy camper.
