Yup...because when you hit a patch of black ice, break traction, start sliding around and need to focus on controlling your vehicle, it is a great time to be trying to get the stupid transmission to stay locked in gear. I don't have to worry about what my transmission is doing, because unless I move the shifter, it stays in gear.

Obviously they didn't know what they were doing...or you misinterpreted what you were seeing. My guess is a good bit of both.

@ 80,000? Not very often. In the back yard playing in the mud while empty & getting the truck turned around so I can park? On several occasions.

Now we know who's full of crap. Mack has NEVER been known for strong engine brakes. Sure, while bobtailing it feels strong...but certainly won't hold much weight back on a grade...especially if you get too high in the gearbox.

Yeah you! Certainly you don't have a clue what you're talking about, I doubt you're even a driver, you're trying to comment on stuff you've obviously no experience of, it's kinda sad but extremely funny too, thanks for the entertainment !

Any driver that knows what he's doing will already be driving in manual in these conditions, besides most professional drivers will be able to switch from auto to manual without even thinking about it and if your truck breaks traction and you need to concentrate so hard you can't think to do anything else then you're not a very good driver are you?

You still haven't explained how you will bump start a truck with electric deisel pumps or unit injectors , that's what all modern trucks have now so it's not gonna matter what gearbox it has does it?

Oh I don't know bob, I can't wait for the day I can drive my truck onto a motorway then get into my bed for the journey or watch tv .

That active cruise control is brilliant when used with a two pedal auto box, in stop- start traffic you can have it switched on and the truck will stop and start automatically , no clutching or fumbling gears every couple of seconds, it just does what the vehicle in front does

Most commercial airliners basically fly themselves yet airtravel has never been safer, human error has caused most of the crashes in the past.
