Drove a Auto shift once for 3 months lots of local lots of OTR. The only thing I really have to complain about is the truck jerked alot I mean alot. Mind you this was around 05 or 06 give or take. So I guessing it has gotten alot better. Just seemed like the truck was always over RPMing befor it shifted gears. One thing I really liked was the city part not worring about shifting but hurt my back alot of times though from it jerking.

lol, three times in the three years I've had this truck, I've had this exp., first time was dropping off Floyd @ 79K, jakes on medium, 35 mph, hit a patch of ice. As soon as it started to slide, I slapped the shifter to manual (it was in and held 6th gear), turned the jakes off, gave it some fuel and made the curve at the bottom doing 45.

One year later, empty 53' container, WB US 160 Wolf Creek, following two loaded bull racks, a grocery hauler and an empty Schneider. 20 mph, jakes on medium (only have three settings, off, medium, hi), mix of rain snow. Plows were out monitoring the road, just before the hairpin at the WB overlook hit black ice. Again, same thing, slapped the shifter to manual, jakes off, never touched the throttle or the brake.

Last time, was in the pics I posted about US 550 in January of this year.

    Anything else?

Why not do it @ 80,000 lbs? Afraid of breaking something? or just common sense?

<sarcasm> it suits you well, go drive a new Mack and tell me that

I'm out of the auto now. Got a 10 speed 2013 prostar. I got a new truck since I switched from van to flatbed.

Some people just don't get that it doesn't matter how the machine works it's the man driving it is what matters! If he's a competent driver he can control his truck no matter what gearshift is in it, the idea that you don't have control of a truck just because it has an auto shift seems ridiculous to me, I have or never had control issues with either type and if you do have problems with it well then I fear it's not the truck!

I used own a conventional truck, a 1996 t143 500hp, I liked it but a but impractical over here with our length limits, I have alot of experience with different types of trucks too, auto or manual, right or lefthand drive, Coe or conventional, also straights and pups, tankers , livestock multideck, rear steer , most axle configurations including Multi drive and Multi steer and my current job thats haulin loads up to 330,000lbs, 120 feet long , 20 feet wide and 20 feet high and modular trailers.

Being hesitant to change is fine, you know what you like and you're sticking with it!
